An adventure that’s a bit steep – a ride on the funicular up into the world of the Hohe Tauern! You will overcome an incline of 82 % on the steepest stretch of the Reißeck funicular. Falkenstein towers over the Möll valley near Obervellach as a picturesque "fairy-tale castle". Slightly higher up, Oberfalkenstein castle is now a ruin. From Obervellach, as well as from the village of Gratschach, there are undemanding hiking trails to both castles.

Built in 1956, the nostalgic Kreuzeck cable railway will take you on a romantic ride up to Rosswiese reservoir, the mountain station, at an altitude of about 1,200m. There one of the most attractive hiking areas in the Alps awaits you, the Kreuzeck Group, with one of the Region’s most distinctive mountains for views, the Salzkofel (2,498m).
